Holding signs that said “We miss you!” and “We love you!,” Ryder teachers reunited with some of their students Monday, April 20, when families came to the school to pick up their “learn from home” workbook packets.

Teachers stood six feet apart on the Ryder sidewalk and waved to students and parents as cars drove around the pick-up and drop-off circle. From their cars, students opened their windows and offered lots of smiles and waves in return. Some even held up homemade signs of their own.

It was the first opportunity for teachers and students to connect in person since the school closure began. To ensure the reunion happened safely, students did not exit their cars, all teachers wore face coverings, and no one was permitted inside the building.

In addition to receiving the next installment of at-home learning materials, families also were able to take home two bags of frozen meat, which were generously donated by the Joshua Project, a Schoharie County non-profit that has been helping feed families throughout the closure.
